Facts

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is suspected of being an accomplice to the torture and enforced disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi from the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October 2018.

Procedure

On 28 July 2022, TRIAL International and Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) filed a complaint against Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his visit in France. They were joined in 2023 by a complaint from Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

In May 2026, the Paris Court of Appeal declared that both TRIAL International and RSF could intervene in the case as civil parties. Following this ruling, a French judicial inquiry has been opened. The investigation will examine allegations of torture and enforced disappearance.
